I’m sure you’ve walked past St John’s Garden lately and thought, “oh dear, that garden needs some love.” The tough weather these past months has also taken its toll and the garden is now looking tired. The good news is that we’ve spent the past year working with Lewisham Council on a plan to bring it back.

Clean & Tidy

Budget has been secured for a full clean-up and tidy of the garden. This includes a deep clean, removal of the existing raised beds and clearing certain bushes to open the space back up for the next phase.

Replant This Autumn/Winter

A replanting initiative will launch over autumn and winter, starting with new soil and mulch for a healthy base. Planting will focus on shade and drought tolerant species, adding year-round structure, better ground cover, and colour that stands up to dry spells.

Your Feedback First

The planting plan is still being finalised. As soon as it’s ready, we’ll share it for everyone’s feedback before the initiative moves fully ahead, so keep an eye out for the next update.

Get Involved

The St John’s Society are looking for volunteers and fresh ideas. Whether you can help with planting, planning an event, fundraising, providing feedback, or simply want to share your views, your input can make a real difference. To help us achieve further improvements within SE8, we also need volunteers to support with writing bids for additional funding. Email chair@st-johns-soc.org. Thank you, Paul
