Early in 2025 the St Johns Society was approached by Iris Hu who is currently studying for a degree in film making at Goldsmiths University of London. Iris wanted to make a video documentary about local communities in the UK and how they work. She initially spoke to Paul (Chair of SJS) and to Sabine and Rosie, both of whom happen to be notable documentary makers. They were able to offer a few words of advice.

The day after filming one of our monthly ‘Green Conversations’ events Iris dropped by the Brookmill pub to do interviews with anyone available. It was nice that the documentary includes colleagues (including our dear friend Subo) who work with communities adjacent to St Johns. The project was all too brief but it was a delight to work with Iris. Had she been assigned more time she would, no doubt, have interviewed more of us. Nonetheless we are fond of the version she gave us, even though it might overemphasise our focus on environmental issues. Maybe Iris will return to interview other key players in the St Johns Society. This would enable us to profile our work on building rain gardens, managing our local parks, public and private transport systems, urban planning decisions, local music and performance, commissioning artworks and murals in the area (etc. etc.). Thank you, Iris!
