Call for Artists: Celebrate Our Community and Local Environment

The St. John’s Society is proud to announce a competition to design a vibrant mural to celebrate the new Rain Garden that will be built in front of the Brookmill Pub in St John’s SE8 this autumn (2026). This greening initiative, supported by the Mayor of London, aims to transform urban spaces by collecting rainwater, reducing flooding, and encouraging biodiversity.

We are seeking a high-resolution, colourful design that complements the Rain Garden and celebrates the local SE8 community.

 Budget:  £ 1,300

Brookmill Rain Garden Mural Competition

 

The artwork will be situated on the walls and gates of The Brookmill Pub facing Brookmill Road, directly opposite Brookmill Park. In accordance with local conservation area guidelines, the mural must be restricted to the designated wall and gate sections and should not extend onto the main historical architectural features of the pub.

Competition Brief

 

Theme: “Rain Garden.” the mural should be vibrant and make a reference to the Mayor of London who is funding the project.

To enter, please send your application to info@st-johns-soc.org. Your email must not exceed 5MB and should include:

 

  1. One Mural Proposal Three examples of previous work, including title, size, and medium.
  2. A short artist biography (maximum 150 words).
  3. Proof of valid public liability insurance.


Important Dates


Submission Deadline:
31st August 2026.

Review and Award: Mid-September 2026.

Installation: Late September / October 2026 (weather dependent) 7 days .


Open to artists aged 18+ only. Entry is free.
