You may have received the following flyer through your door.  Lewisham have recently launched the ‘Healthy Neighbourhoods’ consultation in the St John’s and Tanners Hill area; an initiative ‘working with the community to make our neighbourhoods healthier, safer, and easier for everyone to get around‘.  ‘Our neighbourhood’ in this context stretches from Lewisham Way to beyond Brookmill Park and from  Lewisham town centre to Goldsmiths. This seems like an excellent opportunity to voice concerns about issues such as unsafe crossings, challenges to pedestrians and cyclists, road safety and active travel as well as greening.  You can also drop pins on the map to highlight area-specific issues such as:

  • Accessibility
  • Cycling
  • Footpaths, roads and maintenance
  • Rest areas
  • Safety
  • Street lighting
  • Street trees and greening
  • Traffic and speeding
  • Walking
  • Waste

We suggest highlighting all and every issue you know of in the area – that’s the way we can help inform the council to improve things.  You can respond to this consultation online by following this link to the Commonplace page which includes the map where you can drop pins.  There are also a couple of in-person events being held, one on foot and one by cycle.  Details on those further down this page.  You can also email the team at healthyneighbourhoods@lewisham.gov.uk.

The deadline for submitting thoughts and ideas is 24th February 2025.

Words from the Healthy Neighbourhoods team:

The London Borough of Lewisham, in partnership with Project Centre, are preparing to launch an initial consultation for the Healthy Neighbourhoods programme in the St Johns and Tanner’s Hill area on January 27.

The programme involves working with the community to make our neighbourhoods more walking and cycling-friendly and accessible, while making our local streets greener, improve our air quality and reduce danger and congestion through residential roads.

During this initial consultation stage, we want to hear from residents, businesses, visitors, and community groups to find out more about ideas for improvements and challenges faced in relation to walking, cycling, road danger and personal safety.

To gather this information, we are running an online survey and mapping exercise, and a walk and a cycle through the area. These responses will then help shape early-stage designs and guide the next steps.

As a key stakeholder group, we wanted to let you know about the consultation and ensure you had the dates for the walk and cycle in your diary. Details of the events are as follows:
