One hint of Summer and the Brockley Max Festival is upon us again. Part of the St John’s Society’s contribution was to organise an event at the Brookmill. We will host an evening of quintessentially British comedy and fun. This will be a live event, so who knows what might happen, or where an innocent remark could lead us?!!
As a compere, Edward at Last was once described as a ‘sexy gondalier gently guiding his audience through the dark canals of Venice’. Of course, it is possible that he will be blithely steering the audience through the metaphorical Straits of Hormuz. But there will be music, too. Avid fans of UK music legends such as Madness, David Bowey, Dexys Midnight Runners and Morrisey will recognise the name of their producer, Clive Langer. Co-founder of influential cult band, Deaf School, Clive will perform a few of his songs, including ‘Shipbuilding’, which he co-wrote with Elvis Costello. Two other members of Deaf School will provide music and comedy, respectively. Steve (Avo) Lindsey (i.e. Deaf School’s bass player) will sing songs from his latest album ‘PING’. And in order to maintain gravitas throughout the evening we also invited the Rev. Max Ripple (Deaf School keyboardist) to regale the audience with his tasteful ditties, songs and edgy sermons. There will be some brilliant locally-crafted songs from Professors of Pop, singer Marl’ene and stand-up comedy from Lauren of Clerkenwell (who resides in Liverpool).
