After more than a year of planning, funding and designing the Thornville Street rain garden, we are very exicted to announce a community planting event – this Saturday 28th October at 10:30am.
Please join us as we plant up the newly constructed rain garden on the corner of Thronville Street and Friendly Street, next to the width restrictions. We will begin at 10:30 in the morning and we will have spades, trowels and other tools.
The plants have been generously donated by Sarah Raven, a mix of shrubs which are drought and flood resistant.
We have worked with Lewisham’s Climate Resilience Team to deliver the rain garden which, in addition to being a new community green space, will reduce surface water flood risk by capturing rainwater during heavy downfall. The garden has been funded jointly by Lewisham and Thames Water as part of their Surface Water Management Programme.
The rain garden is currently under construction, built by FM Conways. Please see progress photos below. It’s due to be completed early this week, ready for planting this weekend. I hope many of you are able to join us.
