We are excited to be lining up new speakers for another round of ‘Green Conversations’. These 9 or 10 sessions will take place on Monday evenings in 2024-5 (usually on the last in the month) and will start at 7.30pm upstairs in the Brookmill Pub, 65 Cranbrook Rd, London SE8 4EJ. Our first session will take place on 29th April.

The first (2022-23) series proved very popular with both locals and distant neighbours. We explored a range of topics including local biodiversity, air pollution, water management, retrofitting, urban planning in Lewisham and the importance of trees. As before, St Johns Society will use these sessions to make new friends and to learn how to have FUN in the 21st century. With so much talk of biodiversity losses, climate emergencies and military threats It is easy to overlook the importance of FUN and to see only the negatives. What last year’s sessions taught us is that FUN links many of the processes that keep us alive. Sharing visions of more positive, playful lifestyles will help us address the bigger challenges. We can feel better by supporting the community and watching out for our neighbours and friends.

We have invited local experts to start these conversations. Many will start by sketching out the wider context (the ‘big picture’ in time & space?) before zooming into the specific delights and challenges of living in SE8. We are working on it, but would welcome hearing about your particular interests and views.

WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR VOICE. PLEASE JOIN US:

We will publish speakers and themes of talks shortly.  Keep an eye on our Events page which will soon be updated to cover all SJS and related events.
