St. John’s has seen a number of our mature street trees chopped down in 2021, often without consultation or even prior warning.  We love and value our urban trees and Lewisham continue to fell them without a clear purpose or cause.

Some kind local residents have teamed up with the fantastic Street Trees for Living to have replacement trees planted.  However, we would argue that it should be at Lewisham’s expense, not the residents’.

Lewisham Council is planning to cutdown more mature trees in the area. You can support a group fighting to save the trees here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/save-lewishams-mature-trees
