Green Conversations – October 2025

20 October @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Enjoy a relaxed discussion upstairs at the Brookmill around a community-centred theme. This is another event in the successful series of Green Conversations hosted by the St Johns Society. On the 20th October experts from two organisations will offer a range of practical solutions about our transport systems.

Most of us know that walking and cycling make us wealthier and healthier yet we find it hard to disobey the giant. The powerful automobile industry has normalised private car ownership by spending billions on car adverts and sponsoring motor racing and product placement in movies.

How can we turn the tide? Although many find public transport barely affordable, Londoners are luckier than those in remote villages. Cars are addictive. Owning a car is ‘normal’, even though it reduces community spirit.

How can we beat the vicious cycle of dependency? More cars mean more congestion and air pollution. But building more roads only encourages more cars and this makes public transport more expensive. Join us to hear from two organisations who know a lot about mending the situation. Find out more about possible solutions, or even about setting up your own local group.
